# Neal Maupay’s 405-Day Premier League Goalscoring Drought
Neal Maupay of Brentford had a chance to end his 405-day Premier League goalscoring drought against Chelsea, and Match of the Day’s Gary Lineker, Ian Wright and Alan Shearer discussed the opportunity.
## Neal Maupay’s History
Neal Maupay is a French professional footballer who plays as a striker for Brentford in the Championship. He began his career with Stade Brestois in the French Ligue 2, before moving to England in 2016 to join Brighton & Hove Albion. In his first season with the club, he scored 25 goals in all competitions, and was named the club’s Player of the Year.
In 2019, Maupay joined Brentford in the Championship, and has since scored 37 goals in all competitions. He has been a key player for Brentford, helping them to the top of the Championship table and into the playoffs.
## Neal Maupay’s Premier League Goalscoring Drought
Maupay had not scored a goal in the Premier League since April 2019, when he was still with Brighton & Hove Albion. This meant that he had gone 405 days without scoring a goal in the top flight.
However, he had a great chance to end his drought against Chelsea on Saturday. He was played through on goal by teammate Mathias Jensen, but his shot was saved by Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
Match of the Day’s Gary Lineker, Ian Wright and Alan Shearer discussed the opportunity and praised Maupay for his performance. They all agreed that he was unlucky not to have scored, and that he had been a key player for Brentford this season.
## The Future for Neal Maupay
Despite not scoring against Chelsea, Maupay has been in good form this season and has been a key player for Brentford. He has scored 37 goals in all competitions, and has helped Brentford to the top of the Championship table and into the playoffs.
Maupay will be hoping to end his Premier League drought soon, and if Brentford are promoted to the top flight next season, he will have plenty of chances to do so. He is sure to be a key player for Brentford if they are promoted, and could be one of the stars of the Premier League next season.
