Manchester United prospects train with first team ahead of Luton clash

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has given three young players the opportunity to train with the first team this week. The Red Devils are preparing for their upcoming Premier League match against Luton Town and are looking to extend their winning streak to five matches in all competitions. The inclusion of these talented youngsters in first team training shows the club’s commitment to nurturing young talent and building for the future.

The three players who have been given the chance to train with the senior squad are Ethan Williams, Louis Jackson, and Toby Collyer. Williams, an 18-year-old left-winger, joined Manchester United from Rochdale in 2019. Jackson, also 18, is a promising centre-back who has represented Scotland at the Under-19 level. Collyer, the oldest of the trio at 20 years old, came through the Brighton youth system before making the move to Manchester in 2022. He has already been capped for England up to the Under-17 level.

While it is exciting for these young players to be involved in first team training, it is unlikely that they will feature in the upcoming match against Luton. This is due to the return of key players from injury, including Casemiro, Harry Maguire, and Raphael Varane. However, there are still concerns in the full-back positions, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrell Malacia out and Luke Shaw doubtful. Mason Mount also remains sidelined.

Ten Hag addressed some of these injury concerns in a press conference, stating that Luke Shaw is doubtful for the weekend but the club remains positive that he will be able to play. He also explained that Wan-Bissaka will be out for a few weeks due to another injury picked up in training, while both Mount and Malacia will require more time to recover.

Overall, Manchester United’s decision to involve these young prospects in first team training demonstrates their commitment to developing their youth players. While they may not feature in the upcoming match against Luton, their inclusion is a positive sign for the future of the club. With a strong squad and injury problems gradually easing, Manchester United will be looking to continue their winning streak and maintain their positive momentum in the Premier League.
