Man Utd to Offload 10 Players and Entertain Offers for Ten Hag’s Struggling Signings
Manchester United is set for a major overhaul this summer, with plans to offload at least 10 players as part of a mass clear-out at Old Trafford. The club is also open to listening to offers for their £85 million flop, Antony. Following the takeover by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, changes are already underway off the pitch. Omar Berrada, formerly from Manchester City, has been appointed as United’s new chief executive, and Newcastle United’s sporting director, Dan Ashworth, is being targeted for the new setup at Old Trafford.
On the pitch, United has identified their targets for the summer transfer window. They hope to sign a striker, a midfielder, a centre-half, and a right-back. However, they must be cautious of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules. To address this, selling players will be their best course of action. Ratcliffe and INEOS have identified several “sellable assets” within the squad.
One player on the chopping block is Brazilian winger Antony. United is expecting to receive offers for his services at the end of the season. The 24-year-old, who was United’s second-most expensive signing in history, has struggled to make an impact and has not scored a league goal since April last year.
In addition to Antony, Jadon Sancho, Donny van de Beek, and Hannibal Mejbri left the club in January to join Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Sevilla respectively on loan until the end of the season. These players are also expected to be made available for sale.
Other players facing potential departures include Sofyan Amrabat, who will return to Fiorentina after struggling in the Premier League, and Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial, and Tom Heaton, whose contracts expire at the end of the season. Varane’s departure could be of interest to clubs in Saudi Arabia, who are also keen on signing his former Real Madrid teammate Casemiro.
There are also players whose contracts will have just one year left come the end of the season, such as Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, and Facundo Pellistri. These players could provide opportunities to raise funds.
A decision is also yet to be made on the future of Mason Greenwood. The young striker joined Getafe on a season-long loan last summer after facing legal issues. However, Ratcliffe has indicated that Greenwood could still have a future at Old Trafford.
With these potential departures, Manchester United is set to undergo a significant transformation in their squad. It remains to be seen how they will navigate the summer transfer window and build a team capable of challenging for trophies once again.
