Borussia Dortmund are interested in bringing Jadon Sancho back to the club this summer with his future at Manchester United uncertain. The England international has endured another underwhelming season since arriving from Germany in 2021, having scored just nine goals in 55 games. Sancho was also trained away from the first-team squad for three months earlier in the season and turned in improved performances at the end of the Premier League campaign but was anonymous during United’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester City, replaced by Alejandro Garnacho in the second-half. Reports in April claimed Erik ten Hag has become increasingly impatient with Sancho, with claims United are now looking to sign another left winger this summer casting further doubt on his future.
Sancho is open to leaving United this summer, with Bild reporting a return to Dortmund could be on the cards. While there have not yet been any direct talks over the move, Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Khel has been in frequent contact with Sancho’s advisors at Project Elite Group. The report adds United would be ready to accept a loss on Sancho and cash in for £55million, however Dortmund will only consider a loan move. Former striker Dwight Yorke believes Sancho is on ‘borrowed time’ at Old Trafford, saying: ‘He’s really struggled, whether it’s from a mental point of view, which seems to be well documented. He hasn’t really lived up to the price tag, so yeah, he’s on borrowed time, I suppose, because he hasn’t really produced the goods that we expected. Maybe he should be given another chance, another lifeline. But he’s on borrowed time as far as I’m concerned.’ Sancho finished the 2022-23 season with seven goals and three assists in 41 appearances.
