Sergio Reguilon’s Loan Spell at Manchester United Could End in January
There are reports that Sergio Reguilon’s loan spell at Manchester United may come to an end in January, as Borussia Dortmund is reportedly interested in signing the Tottenham defender.
Loan Spell at Manchester United
The left-back joined Manchester United on deadline day as an emergency signing to cover for Luke Shaw’s injury. Reguilon has made 10 appearances for the Red Devils, but his performances have not been outstanding, and he has also faced injury issues of his own.
Erik ten Hag’s Desire to Keep Reguilon
Despite Reguilon’s mixed performances, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is keen on keeping him at Old Trafford for the remainder of the season. This is especially important as fellow left-back Tyrell Malacia is not expected to return from his knee injury until January.
Borussia Dortmund’s Interest
However, Borussia Dortmund is reportedly interested in signing Reguilon. The Mirror reports that there is a break clause in the Spaniard’s contract, allowing Tottenham to recall him next month. If Dortmund offers a good price, it is likely that Spurs would take the opportunity to sell Reguilon, as his contract is entering its final 18 months.
Uncertain Future
It is unclear how serious Dortmund’s interest is, but if they make a good offer, it is likely that Reguilon could leave Manchester United. The club is currently paying all of his wages. Ten Hag recently discussed the possibility of Spurs recalling their player, indicating that there are ongoing conversations between the two clubs.
Tottenham may also consider recalling Reguilon if they face further defensive injuries or suspensions.
Reguilon’s Career
Reguilon first joined Tottenham in 2020 from Real Madrid and has made 67 appearances for the club. He spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid.
