Jonny Evans Hopes for New Signings to Support Erik ten Hag at Manchester United
Jonny Evans, the Manchester United defender, is hopeful that manager Erik ten Hag will be backed with new signings in the upcoming January transfer window. Evans believes that United’s recent Champions League exit will give ten Hag more time to improve the squad.
United’s European Failure
A 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday resulted in United finishing bottom of their Champions League group, and they also missed out on Europa League qualification. This disappointing result has put ten Hag under mounting pressure, especially after a humiliating 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth last weekend. The team now faces a tough match against Liverpool, where they were thrashed 7-0 by their arch-rivals last season.
Rumors of Ten Hag’s Replacement
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s imminent arrival at the club has raised further doubts about ten Hag’s future. There are reports suggesting that former Chelsea manager Graham Potter is being lined up to replace the Dutchman.
Evans’ Support for Ten Hag
Despite the speculation surrounding ten Hag’s future, Jonny Evans remains fully behind the manager. In an interview with Norway’s TV4, Evans praised ten Hag as a fantastic coach and expressed his confidence in him. He also believes that the upcoming transfer window in January will provide an opportunity for ten Hag to strengthen the team.
“In January, we get a new window and a chance to improve the team. Not playing in Europe will give him more time,” said Evans.
Possible Signings for United
Manchester United is reportedly interested in signing Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy in January. Guirassy has been in excellent form this season, scoring 18 goals in 14 appearances across all competitions. However, United may need to sell players before they can make any new signings. Players like Jadon Sancho, Donny van de Beek, Anthony Martial, Raphael Varane, and Casemiro could be on the list of potential departures.
