Manchester United Reject Galatasaray’s Opening Offer for Fred
Manchester United have rejected Galatasaray’s opening offer for Fred as it fell ‘below expectations’, according to reports. The Brazilian midfielder is expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, with Erik ten Hag deeming him surplus to requirements following the acquisition of Mason Mount. With his contract expiring next summer, the Red Devils are hoping to raise funds in order to sign a new striker, with Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund heavily linked.
There is plenty of interest in Fred, with Galatasaray joinng Fulham, several other Premier League clubs and Saudi Arabian sides in the race for his signature. However, no one has yet to offer the £20million that United want for the 30-year-old, with the Cottagers refusing to make a move until the price tag is lowered.
Fred Joined United From Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018
Fred joined United from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018 in a transfer worth £47m and was one of Jose Mourinho’s last ever signings for the club. His form has drastically fluctuated over his 213 appearances but has played some of his best football under Ten Hag, winning his first major honour with the club this year in the form of the Carabao Cup.
The midfielder is one of four players Ten Hag is keen to get rid of this summer, alongside Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho and Scott McTominay. Just as with Fred though, United are having trouble shifting the trio with many clubs baulking at the fees being asked for them.
Conclusion
It remains to be seen whether or not Manchester United will be able to find a buyer for Fred this summer. The Red Devils are keen to raise funds in order to sign a new striker and are hoping to get at least £20million for the Brazilian midfielder. However, with no club yet to meet their asking price, it looks like they may have to lower their expectations if they want to shift him before his contract expires next summer.
