Manchester United Executives at Risk as Sir Jim Ratcliffe Prepares to Acquire 25% Stake
The roles of Manchester United chief executive Richard Arnold and football director John Murtough are in jeopardy following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s initial meetings with co-chairman Joel Glazer.
Acquisition of 25% Stake by Sir Jim Ratcliffe
The British billionaire and INOES are set to purchase 25 per cent of the Old Trafford club for over £1.25 billion after Sheikh Jassim withdrew his offer last month.
Ratcliffe’s group aims to assume full control of the football operations side of the business as part of their minority takeover.
Meetings with Co-Chairman Joel Glazer
According to the Manchester Evening News, Ratcliffe has been engaging in virtual meetings with co-chairman Glazer ahead of finalizing the minority investment. The discussions include potential changes to United’s structure.
Potential Personnel Changes
As part of the restructuring, personnel changes are expected, with Arnold and Murtough reportedly being at risk of losing their positions.
Arnold took over as chief executive in February 2022 after the departure of Ed Woodward, and Murtough became the club’s football director in March 2021.
Possible Arrival of Paul Mitchell
Ratcliffe is rumored to be considering bringing in Paul Mitchell, a former Monaco transfer chief who has previously worked at RB Leipzig and Tottenham. Mitchell’s experience and success in the transfer market make him an attractive candidate for a role at Old Trafford.
On the pitch, Manchester United recently secured a dramatic win at Fulham, providing some relief for manager Erik ten Hag after consecutive defeats to Manchester City and Newcastle United.
United’s next challenge is a Champions League match against Copenhagen, where they will be looking for a positive result after losing two of their three group games so far.
