Sofyan Amrabat speaks out on his future amid Manchester United and Al Ahli interest

As Manchester United and Al Ahli continue their pursuit of Sofyan Amrabat, the Morocco international has not ruled out staying with current club Fiorentina, as he speaks out on his future.

Manchester United and Al Ahli in pursuit

The Red Devils are working on bringing the 26-year-old to Old Trafford, while the Saudi side are hoping to gazump them and lure the midfielder to the Saudi Pro League. Amrabat still has a year on his contract with Fiorentina, with the Italian side believed to have an option to extend his deal for a further 12 months and it is not out of the question that he remains in Florence.

After Fiorentina dismissed Serie D side Grosseto 4-0 in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday, Amrabat was asked about his future and left the door open to staying where he is.

“I don’t know if I’m leaving… maybe I can stay here at Fiorentina. I don’t know, I could remain.”

No bid from Manchester United yet

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that as of Tuesday there had been no bid from Manchester United for the combative midfielder. The Red Devils are pursuing a deal but they are yet to launch an official offer and they may see his price rise thanks to the interest from Saudi Arabia.

Al Ahli have already signed the likes of Roberto Firmino, Riyad Mahrez, Edouard Mendy and Allan Saint-Maximin and are looking to add even more star quality to their side.

Erik ten Hag’s influence

Manchester United are hopeful that Erik ten Hag can help tempt Amrabat to the Premier League, though, after the pair worked together at Utrecht, where the midfielder started his professional career when the Dutchman was in charge.

Amrabat told The Athletic of Ten Hag’s influence on him: ‘That was so important for me. It was my second year in the first-team. He made a plan for me. He asked me about my strong points and what I wanted to improve. From the first day, he was busy with me. Not only me, all the players. A lot of coaches are busy in general with the team but he put a lot of time into individual work because he knew if the individual was better the team would be better. After every game, he would take me through a video and explain everything to me.

“I was 18 or 19 years old, so sometimes I was thinking, “Oof, again?” But now, when I look back, I know it was so important for my career. I learned such a lot from him.”

Conclusion

Sofyan Amrabat has left the door open to staying with Fiorentina as Manchester United and Al Ahli continue their pursuit of the Morocco international. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that as of Tuesday there had been no bid from Manchester United for the combative midfielder, but they are hopeful that Erik ten Hag can help tempt Amrabat to the Premier League due to their previous working relationship at Utrecht.
