Luis Enrique, ex-Barcelona coach, tipped as Chelsea’s next manager after Graham Potter’s dismissal.

Date:

According to SunSport, Luis Enrique is a top contender for the Chelsea manager position. While Julian Nagelsmann is currently the favorite among bookies to replace Graham Potter, Chelsea may need Bayern Munich’s permission to bring Nagelsmann to Stamford Bridge as he is still on gardening leave. This could prove difficult as the two sides will meet in the Champions League semi-final if they win their respective ties against Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Enrique, a former Barcelona and Spain manager, has many admirers within the Stamford Bridge hierarchy. He achieved great success at Barcelona, leading an expensive squad to unprecedented heights, much like what will be expected of him at Chelsea. In his first season in charge of Barcelona in 2014-15, he won every trophy on offer with a strikeforce consisting of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Neymar.

While Enrique was sacked by the Spanish national team for a humiliating World Cup exit on penalties against Morocco, he was credited with revitalizing La Roja with a run to the Euro 2020 semi-final, where they were unlucky to lose on penalties to eventual winners Italy. He also guided Spain to the 2021 Nations League final where they were edged out by France.

Chelsea sacked Graham Potter after he left the club in the bottom half of the Premier League table, despite the Blues signing £326m worth of players in the January transfer window. Mykhailo Mudryk, who was signed on a deal that could be worth up to £97m, has yet to score and took seven games to even register an assist for the Blues.

Chelsea has been linked with several different managers, including Nagelsmann, Mauricio Pochettino, Frankfurt’s Oliver Glasner, and Napoli’s Luciano Spalletti. Bruno Saltor, who joined from Brighton with Potter, has been placed in caretaker charge for this week’s match against Real Madrid.

In conclusion, while Nagelsmann is currently the favorite to take over from Potter, Enrique is also a strong contender for the Chelsea job. The Blues may need Bayern Munich’s permission to bring Nagelsmann to Stamford Bridge, which could prove difficult as the two sides will meet in the Champions League semi-final if they win their respective ties against Real Madrid and Manchester City. Enrique has achieved great success at Barcelona and has many admirers within the Stamford Bridge hierarchy. Chelsea has been linked with several different managers, including Nagelsmann, Pochettino, Glasner, and Spalletti, but it remains to be seen who will ultimately take over from Potter.
