On Thursday, it was reported that Amrabat had informed Fiorentina that he wished to leave the club amid interest from United, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. The 26-year-old defensive midfielder had a good season at club level, playing 49 games in total as Fiorentina reached the finals of the Coppa Italia and the Europa Conference League.
With his contract up next summer, the Serie A club are willing to heed to his wishes and cash-in, and in a boost to United they have dropped their asking price to €30million (£25.6m). With transfer funds tight, Amrabat would seemingly be a bargain transfer for the Red Devils and Saha believes he is the right man for manager Erik ten Hag’s system.
‘Amrabat is a player that I really like and he’s got a great intensity level that I don’t believe is matched,’ the former United forward told Betfred. ‘It would be exciting to see him at Manchester United and he would improve the overall balance of the squad. We need legs, we need energy and we need strength that can help us upset teams.’
United have already signed one midfielder this summer in Mason Mount, but Saha believes that if Fred or Scott McTominay leave the club this summer, then signing a replacement like Amrabat must become the first priority. He added: ‘You definitely need to have two defensive midfielders in your squad, so if Fred or Scott do leave this summer, then you’re going to have to bring another player in. Marcel Sabitzer also left the club in the summer as well.’
With Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund also linked with a move to Old Trafford, Ten Hag will have to raise funds if he is to land both Amrabat and a new striker. However, Saha believes that Amrabat would be an ideal addition to the squad and could help United challenge for major honours next season.
