Louis Saha, a former Manchester United striker, has expressed his opinion that Wout Weghorst is not good enough for the club and has not done enough to secure a permanent spot beyond this season. Weghorst was signed on loan in January after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo during the World Cup. While Manchester United have had a successful season, winning their first trophy since 2017 and climbing into the top four, Weghorst has underwhelmed up front, scoring only two goals in 21 appearances. Saha believes that Weghorst is not the answer to Manchester United’s goalscoring problems and needs to score more goals to justify his position in the team.
Saha stated that when the ball is coming through from Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, or Antony, Manchester United need a striker who can score 15-20 goals a season. He believes that Weghorst has not shown enough to deserve his spot in the team beyond the summer. Although he acknowledges that the manager has a better idea as he sees him in training every day, Saha believes that Weghorst’s mentality and work ethic are not enough to secure his place in the team.
Saha also shared his thoughts on Declan Rice, an England midfielder who is expected to leave West Ham at the end of the season. Rice’s next club is uncertain, with interest from Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea. Saha thinks that Rice is a terrific player and has had a decent season, but it is difficult to know what he really wants. He believes that Rice’s position is crucial to every team, and he must deliver the right balance in defending and bombing forwards. Saha thinks that Declan Rice and Arsenal would be a good fit.
