Arsenal Star Rejects Bayern Munich, Commits to New Long-Term Contract
Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has agreed to a new long-term contract with the club, putting an end to rumors of a potential move to Bayern Munich. The Gunners were reportedly keen on securing Tomiyasu’s future at the club back in November, amidst interest from the German giants.
Although he is not a regular starter, Tomiyasu has proven to be a valuable member of Mikel Arteta’s squad. He has showcased his versatility by stepping in whenever key players like Ben White and Oleksandr Zinchenko have been unavailable. Despite being down the pecking order, Tomiyasu has consistently performed well.
There were speculations that the 25-year-old could leave Arsenal, especially with Jurrien Timber set to return from injury and push him further down the ranks. In fact, there were even rumors of a potential loan exit in January. However, talks between Tomiyasu and the club have now concluded, and an announcement regarding his new contract is expected soon.
Tomiyasu’s current contract was set to expire in 18 months, making it an opportune time for Arsenal to sell him and raise funds for their summer spending plans. However, it seems that Arteta has always had the intention of keeping the Japanese international at the Emirates. Tomiyasu joined Arsenal from Bologna in 2021 for a fee of around £16 million.
The defender has made 20 appearances for Arsenal this season, although he has been sidelined due to injury and his participation in the Asian Cup. Japan’s surprising exit from the tournament means that Tomiyasu will now be available for Arsenal’s upcoming game against West Ham on Sunday.
Following their impressive 3-1 victory against Liverpool over the weekend, Arteta and his team find themselves back in the title race. They are now just two points behind the league leaders, providing a glimmer of hope for Arsenal fans.
It is clear that Tomiyasu’s commitment to Arsenal is a boost for the club. His versatility and consistent performances have made him an important asset to Arteta’s squad. With his new contract set to be announced soon, Arsenal can look forward to having Tomiyasu as part of their long-term plans.
