Liverpool legend John Barnes has suggested that his former club make a move for Manchester City flop Kalvin Phillips this summer, saying it is a deal that would suit all parties. The England midfielder signed for City from Leeds last summer for £42m on a massive six-year deal but has made no impact at all, struggling for fitness and failing to earn the trust of Pep Guardiola. Guardiola said last month that Phillips still needs a bit of rhythm in short spaces and Barnes feels Man City should cut their losses and let him go, with Liverpool the ideal club to snap him up as the former Reds winner feels his style of play would go down well at Anfield.
Barnes also praised 22-year-old Curtis Jones who he clearly thinks should still get chances to impress in the first team next season. He said that Jones is comfortable on the ball and travels well with it, adding that he works hard and understands the way Klopp wants to play. He also praised Jones for being a local boy from the academy who has come in for some stick but has played well.
Liverpool are likely to revamp their midfield this summer with at least two signings, and Barnes believes Phillips would be a good fit at Anfield while Jones should still get chances to impress in the first team next season.
