Liverpool’s assistant manager, Pep Lijnders, has confirmed that Andy Robertson is fit to play in the second-leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Fulham. Robertson has been out of action since October after injuring his shoulder while on international duty with Scotland. Kostas Tsimikas, the back-up left-back, also suffered an injury, leaving Joe Gomez to fill in on that side of the defense. However, Robertson’s return is a big advantage for Liverpool as he is one of their captains. Lijnders stated that Robertson trained with the team and is available for selection for the upcoming match.
In addition to Robertson, Curtis Jones has also been passed fit to play after recovering from a thigh issue. However, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai will not be available for the semi-final but could be ready for the FA Cup fourth-round clash against Norwich. Lijnders mentioned that Alexander-Arnold is progressing well in his rehab and will be back for team training at the end of the week. Szoboszlai trained with the team and is ready, but the match against Fulham comes too early for him.
Liverpool currently lead Fulham 2-1 from the first-leg, and if they reach the final, they will face either Chelsea or Middlesbrough. The team has been dealing with a defensive injury crisis, and there have been reports of their interest in signing Chelsea’s Levi Colwill. However, Liverpool’s focus now is on the upcoming matches and overcoming their injury challenges.
