Liverpool to Face Fulham and Chelsea to Play Middlesbrough in Carabao Cup Semi-Finals
The semi-final draw for the Carabao Cup has been announced, with Liverpool set to take on Fulham and Chelsea going up against Middlesbrough. The first legs of the semi-finals will be held in the week commencing January 8, while the second legs will take place in the week commencing January 22.
Liverpool and Middlesbrough have been given home draws for the first leg of their respective semi-finals, while Chelsea will have to travel to Teeside. Fulham will travel to Liverpool for their first leg match. This will be the last time the semi-finals are played over two legs, as they will become one-legged matches next season to reduce fixture congestion.
In the quarter-finals, Liverpool delivered an impressive 5-1 victory over West Ham, solidifying their position as the standout performers in the competition. Chelsea and Fulham both had to rely on penalty shootouts to secure their spots in the semis, with Chelsea defeating Newcastle and Fulham triumphing over Everton.
Middlesbrough, the only Championship team remaining in the competition, will be aiming to cause an upset over two legs. However, they face a tough challenge against Liverpool. Both Chelsea and Liverpool will likely be relieved that they have been kept apart in the draw and will hope for favorable results in their respective ties.
Chelsea’s Quest for Silverware
Chelsea’s form this season has been inconsistent, but manager Mauricio Pochettino is eager to win his first trophy in England with The Blues. Liverpool, on the other hand, is the favorite to win the Carabao Cup due to their impressive performances in the league this season. They could potentially top the league table at Christmas if they defeat Arsenal on Saturday. While Chelsea has a historic pedigree with silverware, they are currently only one point ahead of Fulham in the Premier League standings.
The semi-finals of the Carabao Cup promise exciting matchups and intense competition as the teams vie for a spot in the final.
