Mikel Arteta, manager of Arsenal, is expecting the atmosphere away at Liverpool on Sunday to be like a “jungle”. The Gunners have not won at Anfield since 2012 and before their last league visit, Arteta played ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ on a sound system at the training ground. Despite the 4-0 loss, Arsenal are currently eight points clear at the top of the Premier League and Arteta is confident that his team is full of enthusiasm and positivity.
When asked about his reaction to the first half of their last league trip to Anfield in November 2021, Arteta said that he reacted to defend his players the best way possible but he does not like seeing himself like that so hopefully not. He added that after the incident, he and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp hugged each other and moved on.
Liverpool have challenged for the Premier League title in three of the past four seasons, winning it for the first time in 2020, but this term they are well off the pace in eighth place. Klopp stated that he is not a worse manager than last year and that the players are not worse players, they have just played worse.
Arteta is hoping that his team can take advantage of this opportunity to do something they haven’t done in many years and that is what has been driving them the last few days. He is confident that his team is full of enthusiasm and positivity and that they can overcome this challenge.
