Liverpool are close to completing a deal to repurchase their historic Melwood training ground, four years after selling it to housing developer Torus for around £10 million. The Athletic’s James Pearce reports that the Reds are paying “more than they sold it for”, with the final price still unclear. The increase in value reflects an increase in the land’s value and Torus’ costs in terms of the planning process and running the site. The repurchased Melwood will be used as a base for the club’s women’s team, while Robbie Fowler and Jamie Carragher will keep their lease for The Fowler-Carragher Academy. However, due to the work needed to get the outdoor pitches up to scratch, it is unlikely that Matt Beard’s squad will move in until September, when the new Women’s Super League campaign kicks off.
