Lineker Disheartened as Micah Richards Faces Compulsory Sale of Himself, Shearer, or Kane
In a recent episode of The Rest Is Football podcast, former England striker Gary Lineker found himself in a state of disbelief and frustration as his podcast pal Micah Richards was forced to choose which of three iconic forwards he would sell, sub, and buy. The three players in question were Lineker himself, Alan Shearer, and Harry Kane. This decision left Lineker feeling disheartened and he couldn’t help but express his disappointment with a colorful choice of words.
Lineker, Shearer, and Kane are undoubtedly some of the finest attackers to have ever played for the English national team. Lineker scored an impressive 48 goals in 80 games between 1984 and 1992, while Shearer found the back of the net 30 times in 63 appearances from 1992 to 2000. Kane, who made his debut in 2015, has an even more remarkable record with 62 goals in 89 games.
During the podcast episode, Lineker and Shearer eagerly awaited Richards’ decision. Richards ultimately chose to sub Kane and buy Shearer, leaving Lineker as the unfortunate player to be sold. However, Lineker did not take this decision lightly and responded with a humorous yet frustrated retort, exclaiming, “You absolute w****r!”
Richards justified his choice by explaining that he had never seen Lineker play and therefore decided to sell him. He praised Kane’s versatility and technique but opted to bench him. Ultimately, Richards chose Shearer as the striker he would buy, emphasizing his admiration for the former Newcastle forward by exclaiming, “You know class when you see class!”
Lineker, still feeling aggrieved, refused to speak to Richards and made a bold claim that if Richards had witnessed his playing skills firsthand, he would have chosen to buy him instead. The banter between the three hosts added an entertaining element to the podcast, showcasing their playful camaraderie.
While the outcome of this hypothetical scenario may be amusing, it is a testament to the incredible talents of Lineker, Shearer, and Kane. These three players have made lasting contributions to English football and will always be remembered for their goal-scoring prowess on the international stage. Despite Lineker’s disappointment, his impressive record and reputation as one of England’s greatest goal-scorers remain intact.
