Maurizio Sarri, the former Chelsea boss and current Lazio manager, has resigned from his position after a string of disappointing results. This decision has not been well received by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who has branded Sarri a ‘loser’. The 65-year-old Sarri stepped down following Lazio’s fourth consecutive defeat, a 2-1 loss to Udinese. This defeat came on the heels of their elimination from the Champions League after a 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich. As a result, Lazio currently sits in ninth place in Serie A.
De Laurentiis expressed his disappointment in Sarri’s resignation, stating that it shocked him. He believes that if someone accepts a role, they should carry it through to the end out of respect for the club, players, and fans. De Laurentiis sees resigning as the easy way out and views it as a sign of being a ‘loser’. He also questions the motivation behind Sarri’s decision and suggests that Lazio president Claudio Lotito should have found a solution rather than allowing the team to be abandoned near the end of the season.
Lazio confirmed Sarri’s resignation in a statement on Wednesday, thanking him for his achievements and work. The club has decided to appoint Giovanni Martusciello as the new head coach.
This news comes as Chelsea is set to receive £4 million from Fulham due to the loan terms of Armando Broja. Meanwhile, Harry Redknapp has issued a warning to a Chelsea star regarding his teammate’s form.
