RB Leipzig Announces New Signing, Hinting at Fabio Carvalho’s Return to Liverpool
RB Leipzig has officially confirmed the signing of Eljif Elmas from Napoli, a move that could potentially signal the return of Fabio Carvalho to Liverpool. Carvalho’s loan spell at Leipzig has been underwhelming, with limited playing time and only a few starts. Talks have already begun between Liverpool and Leipzig regarding the early termination of Carvalho’s loan deal, indicating that his return to Liverpool in January is likely.
Leipzig’s sporting director, Rouven Schroder, dismissed the speculation as “typical power games” from Carvalho’s parent club. However, the recent departure of midfielder Emil Forsberg to New York Red Bulls initially raised hopes of an increased role for Carvalho. But with the arrival of Elmas, who has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract, Carvalho’s path into the first team seems to be blocked.
Leipzig manager Marco Rose has favored Xavi Simons, another loanee, as the first-choice starter in one of the attacking midfield positions. Simons has been impressive, contributing six goals and nine assists. Carvalho’s future at Leipzig remains uncertain, and Liverpool is likely eager to resolve his situation as soon as possible.
If Carvalho’s loan deal is terminated early, it is unlikely that he will return to Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad at Liverpool. Instead, another loan move is expected, with initial preference given to a Premier League side.
