Latest on Konate’s Injury as Liverpool Awaits Scan Ahead of Man City Clash

Liverpool’s hopes for their upcoming match against Manchester City may be in jeopardy as they await the results of a scan on Ibrahima Konate’s suspected hamstring injury. The Frenchman suffered the injury during their recent game against Sparta Prague, where Liverpool secured a 5-1 victory and took a step towards the Europa League quarter-finals.

Jurgen Klopp had planned to give Konate and Virgil van Dijk each a half of playtime in order to preserve them for the important clash with Manchester City. However, Konate ended up staying on the pitch beyond halftime before being forced to come off due to his injury. Klopp referred to the substitution as a precaution, but concerns about a possible hamstring injury remained.

During his pre-Man City press conference, Klopp provided an update on Konate’s condition, saying, “Joe [Gomez] is fine. Ibou, I don’t know.” He added that Konate seemed positive about his decision to come off the pitch but emphasized that it didn’t necessarily indicate a minor injury. Klopp mentioned that Konate would undergo a scan to determine the extent of his injury but had not yet received the results.

With Konate’s availability uncertain, Gomez could potentially fill in for the match against Manchester City after being substituted at half-time in the game against Sparta Prague. Despite this setback, Klopp expressed relief that “all the others are fine,” including Darwin Nunez, who had previously caused concern during TNT Sports’ coverage of the match.

However, Liverpool still faces several absences due to injuries. Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, Thiago, Stefan Bajcetic, Diogo Jota, and Ben Doak are all currently unavailable. There is a possibility that Jayden Danns could return to the squad after recovering from a concussion.

As Liverpool awaits the scan results for Konate’s injury, the team remains hopeful that they will have a full squad available for their crucial match against Manchester City. The outcome of the scan will determine whether Klopp’s defensive options are limited or if they can rely on Gomez to step in. Liverpool’s fans will be eagerly awaiting the news and hoping for a positive outcome as they prepare for an intense showdown with their rivals.
