Liverpool FC: Jurgen Klopp Unclear on Starting Lineup for Premier League Opener vs. Chelsea

With two weeks to go until Liverpool FC’s opening Premier League match against Chelsea, manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted he doesn’t know who will start. The Reds have two pre-season games left to prepare and two new signings have arrived, leaving Klopp with a wealth of attacking talent and selection conundrums.

Speaking after Liverpool’s 4-0 friendly win against Leicester, Klopp said: “There’s nothing sorted yet. I don’t sit here and know exactly what lineup I should play against Chelsea, why should I?”

Klopp went on to praise the young players in the squad, saying: “I have seen a lot of young players in my career but this group is special.” However, he also stressed the importance of allowing the youngsters time to develop, suggesting they wouldn’t play a role against Chelsea.

The German added: “Let’s see where it (the season) will lead us to, but if these boys play the main role next season, we’ll have a problem. We use these boys in moments when it’s really going well; one here, one there and they still have time to develop if we give them that time. There are other [more senior] players who have to do sort the things for us.”

It’s clear that Klopp has plenty of options at his disposal, and with two weeks left before the Chelsea match, it’s anyone’s guess as to who will start. Liverpool fans will be hoping that the Reds can hit the ground running and make a statement in their opening match of the season.

Liverpool’s Pre-Season So Far

Liverpool have had an impressive pre-season so far, with wins against Tranmere Rovers, Bradford City, Borussia Dortmund and Leicester City. The Reds have also signed two new players in the form of Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott.

Van den Berg is a 17-year-old centre-back from PEC Zwolle in the Netherlands, while Elliott is a 16-year-old winger from Fulham. Both players are highly rated and could make an impact for Liverpool this season.

Competition for Places

The competition for places in the Liverpool squad is fierce, and it’s clear that Klopp has plenty of options at his disposal. With the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Xherdan Shaqiri all vying for a starting spot, it’s going to be interesting to see who gets the nod for the Chelsea match.

It’s also worth noting that Liverpool have been linked with a number of other players in recent weeks, including Nicolas Pepe and Wilfried Zaha. If any of these players were to join the club before the start of the season, it would only add to the competition for places in the starting lineup.

Conclusion

With two weeks left until Liverpool’s opening Premier League match against Chelsea, Jurgen Klopp is still unsure as to who will start. The Reds have had an impressive pre-season so far, with two new signings arriving and plenty of competition for places in the squad. It remains to be seen who will get the nod for the Chelsea match, but one thing is for sure: Liverpool will be looking to make a statement in their opening match of the season.
