Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp Calls Alexis Mac Allister’s Red Card “Harsh”
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has called the red card given to Alexis Mac Allister in their 3-1 victory against Bournemouth a “harsh” decision. The match, which took place on Saturday 19 August, saw Liverpool come from behind to win with 10 men after Mac Allister was sent off in the first half.
The incident occurred in the 37th minute when Mac Allister was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Bournemouth’s Jefferson Lerma. The referee deemed the challenge to be dangerous and reckless, resulting in the red card.
Klopp was quick to defend his player, saying: “I think it was a harsh decision. It was a situation where he wanted to win the ball but he didn’t get it. I don’t think it was a red card.”
Despite being down to 10 men, Liverpool managed to fight back and secure a 3-1 victory. Goals from Mohamed Salah, Curtis Jones and Divock Origi sealed the win for the Reds.
Klopp praised his side’s performance, saying: “It was an incredible performance from the boys. To come back from 1-0 down with 10 men is really special.”
The result means Liverpool have now won all three of their opening Premier League matches this season. They currently sit top of the table, two points ahead of second-placed Leicester City.
The Reds will be hoping to continue their winning streak when they face Arsenal at Anfield on Monday 28 August. However, they will have to do so without Mac Allister, who will be suspended for the match due to his red card.
Match of the Day will be showing highlights of the match between Liverpool and Bournemouth on BBC One and iPlayer on Saturday 19 August at 22:20 BST. Fans can tune in to see how Liverpool managed to secure a 3-1 victory despite being down to 10 men.
