Alexis Mac Allister Injury Update: Liverpool Midfielder Suffers Blow to Knee in Bayern Munich Friendly
Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister took a blow to the knee during the Reds’ friendly against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, but manager Jurgen Klopp has played down any concerns.
The Reds played out a 4-3 defeat to Bayern in Singapore, with Klopp giving his key starters at least an hour of game time. Mac Allister was one of three players brought off at half-time, however, after suffering a clash of knees.
Physio Joe Lewis attended to him at half-time, raising fears of a serious injury given the lack of options in midfield. But Klopp gave a positive update after the game, saying: “[It was] knee on knee, he could have played on. The first information I got was that it was too painful, so it was clear that we would change, no need to push him through. When I spoke to him after he said ‘no, no, I would have been fine’. But we didn’t want to take any risks. It was just knee on knee, bruised. He was fine.”
The news will be welcomed by Liverpool supporters, who are looking forward to seeing the impact Mac Allister can have following his £35 million arrival from Brighton. In his first cameos for the club during pre-season, the Argentine has slotted in comfortably and looks set to be an influential figure for the Reds this season.
Mac Allister will now be given a chance to rest before Liverpool’s final friendly against Darmstadt on Monday. The Reds will then return to Merseyside to resume preparations for the new season at the AXA Training Centre.
Klopp will be hoping that Mac Allister’s injury is nothing more than a minor setback and that he will be available for selection when the Premier League season kicks off on September 12th. With the Reds looking to defend their title and mount another challenge for European glory, having a fully fit Mac Allister available will be essential if they are to achieve their goals this season.
