Kevin De Bruyne: Former Teammate Tips MLS Transfer for Manchester City Star

Date:

Kevin De Bruyne, the talented midfielder for Manchester City, has been the subject of transfer speculation, with former teammate Christian Benteke tipping him for a move to the Major League Soccer (MLS). De Bruyne’s contract with City is set to expire at the end of next season, and negotiations for an extension have been put on hold due to his recent injury lay-off.

Benteke, who played alongside De Bruyne for both Belgium and Genk earlier in their careers, believes that the MLS would be a good fit for the 32-year-old midfielder. He specifically mentioned two clubs, LAFC and LA Galaxy, as potential destinations for De Bruyne once he leaves the Etihad Stadium.

Despite his injury setback, De Bruyne has continued to impress on the field since his return. In 19 appearances this season, he has scored five goals and provided 14 assists. However, his emergence as a creative force in City’s midfield has been complemented by the rise of Phil Foden, who has amassed 14 goals and seven assists in the league.

Benteke himself knows firsthand about playing in the MLS, as he joined DC United in 2022 after a decade in English football with Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Crystal Palace. He has scored 21 goals in 44 league appearances in the US and has praised the standard of competition in the MLS, describing it as both physical and technical. He also emphasized that people should not underestimate the league, as it requires skill and respect.

In a separate development related to Manchester City, former players Rio Ferdinand and Joleon Lescott have blamed the fans for City’s penalty shoot-out defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League. Lescott pointed out that the home fans at the Etihad played a role in Bernardo Silva missing a penalty by holding onto the ball for too long after Real’s Luka Modric fired his shot into the stands. According to Lescott, the delay disrupted Silva’s rhythm and contributed to the missed penalty.

Ferdinand agreed with Lescott, highlighting the importance of timing in penalty kicks and how a delay caused by the fans can affect a player’s decision-making. He noted that the home fans were responsible for the delay and expressed disappointment in their actions.

Overall, these developments highlight the uncertain future for Kevin De Bruyne at Manchester City and the potential for a move to the MLS. It also sheds light on the impact of fan behavior on players during high-pressure moments like penalty shoot-outs. As the narrative unfolds, it becomes clear that both De Bruyne and City will have important decisions to make in the coming months regarding his future with the club.
