Wolves are reportedly considering a shock move for Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, as they prepare to sell current keeper Jose Sa due to continued interest from Saudi Arabia. Sa, a Portugal international, is rumored to be heading to the Middle East with the help of his agent, Jorge Mendes. Wolves are already looking for potential replacements and Ramsdale is said to be on their wish list, along with Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher and Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson. However, any move for these players would require a substantial fee from Saudi Arabia for Sa.
Ramsdale, who joined Arsenal last summer, has had limited opportunities this season, making only six Premier League appearances. He was dropped by manager Mikel Arteta after the arrival of David Raya on loan from Brentford. Raya’s deal is set to be made permanent at the end of the season, which could further limit Ramsdale’s chances of playing.
On the other hand, Kelleher has been given plenty of opportunities at Liverpool this season due to Alisson’s injury troubles. The Irishman has made 26 appearances in all competitions, surpassing his previous seasons combined at Anfield. However, with Alisson’s return to form, Kelleher might consider a move in order to secure regular first-team football.
Meanwhile, Patterson has been impressive as Sunderland’s first-choice goalkeeper in the Championship for the past two seasons. However, with the Black Cats missing out on a play-off place, he may find it hard to resist a move to the Premier League.
It remains to be seen which goalkeeper Wolves will ultimately pursue as a replacement for Sa. Crystal Palace’s Sam Johnstone was initially considered, but an elbow injury has made him an unlikely target in the upcoming summer transfer window. Wolves will need to act quickly if they want to secure a suitable goalkeeper before the start of the next season.
