Federico Gatti scored a 97th-minute equaliser to earn Juventus a draw against Sevilla in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final. Gatti headed in from two yards after Paul Pogba superbly kept the ball in as a Danilo header was set to drift wide. This cancelled out Youssef En-Nesyri’s 26th-minute goal, with the striker stroking in Lucas Ocampos’ cross. Sevilla dominated the game for large periods but were left to rue missed chances by En-Nesyri and Ocampos. Juventus were lacklustre for most of the game, with Gatti’s header only their second effort on target in the game.

Sevilla, who knocked out Manchester United in the quarter-finals, have won the Europa League a record six times, most recently in 2020. They had 13 shots including five on target, and arguably should have left Turin with a bigger advantage with En-Nesyri taking too long to shoot when through on goal moments after his opener.

Juventus started the match with a 3-5-1-1 formation, with Wojciech Szczesny in goal, Danilo, Leonardo Bonucci, Alex Sandro and Juan Cuadrado forming the backline, Rodrigo Bentancur and Adrien Rabiot in midfield, Federico Chiesa and Dejan Kulusevski on the wings, Weston Mckennie in attacking midfield and Alvaro Morata up front. Sevilla lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Bono in goal, Jesus Navas, Jules Kounde, Sergi Gomez and Marcos Acuna forming the backline, Fernando Reges and Ivan Rakitic in midfield, Lucas Ocampos on the right wing, Suso on the left and Youssef En-Nesyri as the lone striker.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Gatti scoring for Juventus and En-Nesyri for Sevilla. Both teams had chances to score more goals but were unable to convert them into goals. The second leg of the semi-final will be played at Sevilla’s home ground on May 6th.
