Jurgen Klopp was left disappointed after Liverpool’s 4-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. The Reds boss was critical of his side’s defending and thanked the hosts for not scoring more goals.
“It’s difficult to accept,” said Klopp. “We were not good enough in defending situations, especially in the first half. We gave them too much space and allowed them to play their game. We have to learn from this and do better next time.”
The German manager also praised Manchester City for their performance, saying: “I have to give credit to Manchester City. They played very well and deserved the win. I’m thankful that they didn’t score more goals.”
Klopp also highlighted the importance of learning from the defeat, adding: “We must analyse this game and learn from it. We have to be better in our defending and be more compact as a team. We have to be more aggressive and show more determination.”
The result leaves Liverpool in fourth place in the Premier League table, four points behind third-placed Manchester City. The Reds will be looking to bounce back when they face Crystal Palace on Saturday 1 April.
