# Ryan Jack Withdraws from Scotland Squad Ahead of Euro 2024 Qualifier Against Spain
Scotland midfielder Ryan Jack has withdrawn from the squad ahead of the Euro 2024 qualifier against Spain on Thursday 12th October. Jack has been absent from Rangers’ past two matches due to an injury sustained against former club Aberdeen. Manager Steve Clarke has not called up a replacement for Jack, who is also without injured defender Kieran Tierney.
The match, which takes place at Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville, kicks off at 19:45 BST. Coverage of the match will be available on BBC Radio Scotland Extra/DAB/online, with live text commentary on the BBC Sport website and app.
Scotland currently top Group A with five wins from five and beat Spain 2-0 in the reverse fixture at Hampden Park in March. A win or draw against Spain will guarantee Scotland’s place in the finals next summer in Germany, while a Norway defeat to Cyprus on the same night would also see Scotland through.
Jack’s absence is a blow for Scotland, who are looking to qualify for their first major tournament since the 1998 World Cup. The 27-year-old has been a key part of Clarke’s side since taking over as manager in May 2019, and his absence will be felt in the midfield.
The Scots have a strong record against Spain, having won three of their last four meetings. However, they face a tough task against a Spanish side that have won all five of their qualifiers so far and are looking to extend their unbeaten run to 13 games.
Clarke will be hoping his side can continue their impressive form and secure qualification for Euro 2024. Scotland have already beaten Cyprus, Norway and Serbia in Group A and will be looking to add Spain to that list on Thursday night.
With Ryan Jack out of the squad, it remains to be seen who will step up to fill his role in the midfield. Whoever Clarke chooses, they will have a big job on their hands as Scotland look to secure qualification for next summer’s finals.
