Former Inter Milan striker Adriano was due to be working for TNT during the Champions League final, but reportedly missed his flight to Turkey after a night on the tiles in Rio de Janeiro. According to Brazilian publication Globo, Adriano was seen at three different parties on Thursday night and failed to make his flight scheduled for Friday. Globo’s EXTRA also reported that the Brazilian had disappeared on the night out and could not be contacted as he left a team waiting for him at the airport.
Adriano had an impressive start to his career when he re-signed with Inter in 2004, but after the death of his father he suffered greatly and turned to drinking, eventually leading to his return to South America. In 2018, Adriano spoke to Brazilian outlet R7 about his struggles, saying: “Only I know how much I suffered. The death of my father left me with this huge void, I felt very lonely. After his death everything got worse, because I isolated myself. I was alone in Italy, sad and depressed, and then I started drinking. I only felt happy when I was drinking, I’d do it every night. I drank everything I could get my hands on: wine, whisky, vodka, beer. Lots of beer. I didn’t stop drinking and in the end I had to leave Inter.”
Adriano won two Serie A titles with Inter Milan during his time at the club. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
