Eddie Nketiah hailed as ‘almost like watching Thierry Henry’ after Arsenal hat-trick
Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has said that Arsenal star Eddie Nketiah’s performance last weekend was ‘almost like watching Thierry Henry’.
Arsenal thrashed Sheffield United 5-0 at the Emirates last Saturday with Nketiah bagging the first Premier League hat-trick of his career.
The striker has been under pressure this season, with many unsure whether he is good enough to lead the line for the Gunners as they aim to win the title.
And with Gabriel Jesus sidelined with injury, there is now even more weight on the 24-year-old’s shoulders, but, for now at least, he has silenced the doubters.
Tim Sherwood and Harry Redknapp heap praise on Eddie Nketiah
Tim Sherwood was one of those to heap praise on the England international, claiming he is an ‘upgrade’ on Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund.
And now, another ex-Spurs boss has hailed the player, with Redknapp naming Nketiah as the best player in his Premier League Team of the Week.
He told BetVictor: ‘My star man this week is Eddie Nketiah. There’s been a lot of pressure on him this season, but he was superb at the weekend.
‘I know people will say it was Sheffield United at home, but he took his goals like a natural striker. The third one in particular, wow what a goal.
‘With that number 14 on his back, it was like watching Thierry Henry. Well, almost!’
Nketiah had chance to score four goals
Nketiah actually had the chance to score four goals against the Blades, but elected to hand a penalty over to Fabio Vieira, allowing the attacking midfielder to score his first goal of the season.
Had he got a fourth, he would have become only the third Arsenal player to score four goals in the Premier League after Henry and Andriy Arshavin.
Nketiah now has five goals and one assist in 14 games across all competetion so far in 2023/24, helping the Gunners up to second in the table, just two points behind rivals Tottenham.
Arsenal’s next game is against West Ham
Next up for Mikel Arteta’s side is a Carabao Cup clash at West Ham on Wednesday night.
Conclusion
Eddie Nketiah is proving his worth to Arsenal this season and his hat-trick against Sheffield United has earned him praise from former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp who likened him to Thierry Henry. Nketiah now has five goals and one assist in 14 games across all competetion so far in 2023/24 and will be looking to add to that tally when Arsenal take on West Ham in their next game.
