Harry Maguire Set to Leave Man Utd: Dwight Yorke Tips Aston Villa as Perfect Club for Defender

Harry Maguire is likely to leave Manchester United this summer, and former United legend Dwight Yorke believes Aston Villa would be the perfect club for the defender to revive his career at. Maguire has struggled for game time under Erik ten Hag and reports suggest he is to be stripped of the captaincy regardless of whether he leaves or not. With Gareth Southgate telling Maguire that he needs to be playing regularly in order to retain his place in the England squad, a fresh start for the defender seems like the best option for all parties.

West Ham and Tottenham have been linked, but Yorke believes his boyhood club Villa would be the ideal location. “Aston Villa would be a great destination for Maguire, they’re ambitious and want to break into the top six,” said Yorke. “Unai Emery has done a fantastic job, they have a great stadium and an amazing fanbase. Villa are looking to bring in established players to break into the European spots consistently and Maguire is one of those established players. It’s a fresh start for Maguire, he can get out of the limelight and blossom again, there are not many better destinations for him to return to his best than Aston Villa.”

Maguire’s chance to move to Villa may have been missed however, with Emery set to sign to sign top target Pau Torres, with the Villarreal centre-back extremely highly-rated. United are open to offers for Maguire as they look to raise funds for a new striker but are demanding a £50million fee for his services, which will surely put off interested parties. In addition, they will likely have trouble offloading their skipper due to his £200,000-a-week wages.

It remains to be seen where Maguire will end up this summer, but it is clear that he needs to find a club where he can play regularly in order to get back to his best form. Yorke believes that Aston Villa would be the perfect club for him, and it could be a great move for both parties if it were to happen.

Whether Maguire ends up at Villa or not, it is clear that he needs to find a club where he can get regular game time in order to get back to his best form. With United open to offers for the defender, it will be interesting to see where he ends up this summer.
