Tottenham fans are in a negative mindset ahead of their trip to Liverpool this weekend, with many predicting a home win for the Reds. Last weekend’s 6-1 humiliation at Newcastle has led to Spurs fans being refunded and a strong response is required by them on Merseyside.
Brogan Clasper, a Spurs fan and writer, spoke to us about the club’s next manager, the Reds’ future and Sunday’s meeting. He believes that the Premier League table does not accurately reflect how poor Tottenham have been this season. Injuries have not helped, but Antonio Conte’s rigid three at the back system has not worked out for them this term. Going out of the FA Cup and Champions League on a whimper really felt like the end of their season, with the players unable to revive their league campaign in recent weeks.
When asked which players have struggled the most, he pointed to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Ivan Perisic and Eric Dier. He believes that Mauricio Pochettino would have been an open goal for Daniel Levy, but it seems he is set to make his move to another London side. Julian Nagelsmann is now seen as the obvious choice for the next Spurs manager, and it is a decision that Levy absolutely has to get right.
Clasper believes that fans getting refunds is part of the risk of following a team, but personally he would rather see the players fined. He also assesses Liverpool’s season, noting that there are parallels between the two sides and that it will be interesting to see how Liverpool tackle the summer transfer window. He believes that if Liverpool fail to land their top targets, then there is no reason why the likes of Newcastle can’t continue to open the gap on them.
Looking ahead to Sunday’s game, Clasper believes that Harry Kane will be licking his lips at the prospect of playing against Liverpool’s backline which has not looked right all season. However, he predicts a convincing win for the hosts, with a score of 3-0.
