The future of Harry Kane at Tottenham has been the subject of much speculation, with the striker linked to a move away from the club. However, former Spurs striker Darren Bent believes that the reappointment of Mauricio Pochettino as manager could be the key to keeping Kane at the club.
Tottenham have had a disappointing season, having been knocked out of both the Champions League and FA Cup this month. This has led to questions about the future of both Kane and current manager Antonio Conte.
Kane’s comments after Spurs’ European exit at the hands of AC Milan sparked concerns among fans about whether he wants to leave amid links to Manchester United. However, Bent believes that Kane will stay put if Pochettino returns to the club.
“I feel like we’ve been here before with Harry Kane. I don’t really see a burning ambition to leave,” Bent told Drivetime. “If Pochettino goes back to Spurs I think Kane signs a new contract.”
Kane worked with Pochettino throughout the Argentine’s five-year spell in charge of the club, and the two have a strong relationship. Pochettino has been tipped to return to Tottenham as manager, and his reappointment could be the key to keeping Kane at the club.
Meanwhile, talkSPORT’s Darren Ambrose believes that signing Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse is the key to keeping Kane at Spurs. “I’d take Ward-Prowse at Spurs for £50m,” Ambrose said earlier this month. “I think he’s the perfect player that Spurs need that goes from defence to attack. And he can be that link to the play and I think you’ve got the players that will do the dirty work – the dog work – in terms of [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg and [Oliver] Skipp and players like that. I think he’s fantastic. Listen, you sign James Ward-Prowse, Harry Kane stays. That’s an extra ten goals a season for him with his deliveries.”
Tottenham will need to make some big decisions in the coming months if they are to keep Kane at the club. The reappointment of Pochettino and the signing of Ward-Prowse could be key factors in convincing Kane to stay.
