Glen Johnson urges Chelsea to keep ‘calm and composed’ star Armando Broja
Glen Johnson has urged Chelsea to keep ‘calm and composed’ star Armando Broja amid rumours that Inter Milan are plotting a January move for him.
The Albania international, who came through Chelsea’s academy, recently took Nicolas Jackson’s spot in the starting XI after the Senegal star’s suspension.
Broja has only just returned from a long injury and was handed a start against west London rivals Fulham as he registered a goal in a 2-0 victory.
He was rewarded with another start in Chelsea’s last game, a 4-1 win at Burnley, but only lasted 45 minutes as he was hauled off following a poor performance.
According to reports in Italy, Inter Milan are interested in bringing in Broja when the January transfer window opens and they have been monitoring him for years.
Johnson Wants Chelsea to Keep Broja
Johnson, though, is a big fan of the 22-year-old and would like to see his old club keep the striker.
‘I think he could potentially become a top player for Chelsea,’ Johnson told Betfred.
‘He’s got age on his side, he’s a very good technical player and he’s calm and composed in front of goal, which is something you need if you’re going to be a striker for a top team.
‘He’s yet to hit the heights, but he’s young and definitely worth having as an option for Chelsea and it’s better than them spending an awful lot of money on somebody else.’
Pochettino Urges Fans to Give Broja Time
Speaking last week, Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino described Broja as a ‘very talented player’ but urged fans to give him time to develop.
It remains to be seen whether Inter Milan will make a move for Broja in January, but Johnson is certainly keen for Chelsea to keep hold of him.
The Blues have had plenty of success with academy products over the years and Broja could be the latest to make the grade if he is given the opportunity.
