Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp would be thrilled if the club manages to sign Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic in the summer, according to former Liverpool and Chelsea player Glen Johnson. The Reds are reportedly interested in the Croatia international, but they face competition from Manchester City and Bayern Munich. Kovacic is out of contract in 2024, and Johnson believes the player is underrated. He said that if Kovacic leaves Chelsea, he would suit Liverpool very well, adding that Klopp would love the way he plays. Johnson also compared Kovacic to Lucas Leiva, saying that he is a lot better on the ball than people give him credit for.
Johnson predicted that Liverpool will finish fifth and Chelsea seventh in the Premier League table based on current form. He thinks Liverpool will make a good run for the top four but ultimately fall short. Chelsea return to action against Aston Villa on Saturday, while Liverpool travel to the Etihad to take on Manchester City earlier in the day.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich is reportedly interested in Liverpool target Mason Mount as Thomas Tuchel plots a Chelsea raid. Liverpool star Sadio Mane has said that it would be amazing if Jude Bellingham moved to Anfield.
