Former Manchester United manager linked with surprise move to Bayern Munich amidst increasing pressure on Tuchel
Bayern Munich, one of the most successful football clubs in the world, could be considering a shock move for former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian, who has been out of work since being sacked at Old Trafford in November 2021, is reportedly being monitored by Bayern as a potential interim boss if current manager Thomas Tuchel were to leave.
Bayern Munich is currently facing the prospect of a trophyless season, something they haven’t experienced since 2012. They find themselves eight points adrift in the Bundesliga title race after a recent defeat, and they have already been eliminated from the DFB-Pokal. Additionally, their Champions League campaign hangs in the balance as they trail in their last 16 tie against Lazio.
The pressure on Tuchel is mounting with each passing game, and rumors of his potential departure have emerged. However, Bayern president Jan-Christian Dreesen has assured fans that Tuchel’s job is safe for now. He stated that there are currently no plans to relieve Tuchel of his duties and that the club intends to keep him until at least the end of the season.
Despite these assurances, Sky Germany reports that Solskjaer is being closely watched by Bayern Munich. The Norwegian’s name has been linked with the German giants, but there is currently no concrete agreement between Solskjaer and Bayern.
Solskjaer’s managerial career has had its ups and downs. He took over as Manchester United’s interim boss in December 2018 following Jose Mourinho’s sacking and impressed enough to be given the job permanently in March 2019. Under his guidance, United achieved a second-place finish in the Premier League during the 2020/21 season.
However, Solskjaer’s tenure at United also had its share of disappointments. The team suffered humiliating defeats, including a 6-1 loss at home to Tottenham and a 5-0 defeat against Liverpool at Old Trafford. Ultimately, his tenure ended without a trophy, leading to his departure from the club in November 2021.
Meanwhile, Tuchel and Bayern are under immense pressure. Their recent 3-2 defeat at Vfl Bochum has left them eight points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga title race. In addition, they need to overturn a 1-0 deficit in the second leg of their Champions League tie against Lazio to stay in Europe.
The situation at Bayern Munich is tense, and the future of Thomas Tuchel remains uncertain. While Bayern’s president has stated that there are no immediate plans to replace Tuchel, the club is reportedly keeping a close eye on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a potential interim boss. Only time will tell if these rumors materialize and if Solskjaer will find himself leading one of Europe’s most prestigious clubs.
