Roberto Firmino Happy at Al-Ahli, No Push for January Move
Roberto Firmino is reportedly content at Al-Ahli and is not actively seeking a transfer away from the club, according to sources from This Is Anfield. However, speculation surrounding the former Liverpool player’s future continues as he struggles to secure regular playing time in the Saudi Pro League.
Last summer, Firmino joined Al-Ahli after an illustrious eight-year career at Anfield. Despite scoring a hat-trick on his debut, the Brazilian’s fortunes quickly turned sour. He has failed to score in his last 17 appearances and has been limited to substitute appearances in his last six league games.
Recent reports suggest that Firmino could be on the move just six months after joining Jeddah. However, individuals close to Firmino have downplayed these rumors, affirming that he is still enjoying his time at Al-Ahli. Nevertheless, given his diminished role under Matthias Jaissle, significant interest is expected in January.
One of the clubs rumored to be interested in Firmino is Al-Ettifaq, managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard. The Dammam-based team has struggled, winning only one of their last 11 league matches. Gerrard has expressed frustration and called for reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window.
If Al-Ahli is open to letting Firmino leave, a reunion with his former Liverpool teammate could be a possibility. Gerrard aims to strengthen his squad and compete at the top of the league.
“We need to show in this window, and also the summer window, that we mean business and we want to be competitive at the top of the league, and not where we are at the moment,” said Gerrard.
Fans eagerly await the back end of January to see if Firmino’s situation changes and if Al-Ahli allows him to depart.
