Fabinho, who was part of the Brazil squad that reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar, has been left out of the Brazil squad for the second international break in a row. This is despite his recent resurgence in form for Liverpool, playing alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold in their new system. Roberto Firmino has also been omitted from interim coach Ramon Menezes’ selection. Menezes has instead opted to call up six uncapped players, including Newcastle’s Joelinton and Fluminense’s Andre. Fabinho, who has only started 14 of his 29 international appearances since his debut in 2015, may now have to accept that his international future is set. As a result, he will be given almost six weeks off before the return for Liverpool’s pre-season on July 8.
