Everton’s Appeal Successful: Calvert-Lewin’s Red Card Overturned
Everton Football Club has won their appeal against the red card given to Dominic Calvert-Lewin during their FA Cup third-round match against Crystal Palace. The Football Association (FA) has overturned the dismissal, allowing Calvert-Lewin to resume playing immediately.
Return to Action Against Aston Villa
The Blues will now prepare to host Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday at 14:00 GMT.
Referee’s Decision Reversed
Initially, referee Chris Kavanagh did not take any action against Calvert-Lewin. However, after reviewing the incident on the pitchside monitor upon the intervention of video assistant referee (VAR) Michael Salisbury, Kavanagh decided to show Calvert-Lewin a red card in the 79th minute.
Manager’s Frustration
Following the game, Everton manager Sean Dyche expressed his frustration with the VAR system, stating, “I have no clue what that [monitor] is there for… Every fan must be going ‘what is the point?’ We all know the outcome, they are going to agree with everything they’re being told… The chance of having something turned over is minuscule so why even bother? I’m a fan [of VAR] but we’re all aware it needs tidying up. I thought it was getting tidied up but it seems to have stepped back a little bit. I remain a fan, but it is beginning to test my patience.”
FA Cup Replay
The match between Everton and Crystal Palace ended in a goalless draw. As a result, the two teams will face each other again in a replay at Goodison Park on January 17th.
