Everton’s upcoming clash against Liverpool could see them without two of their three centre-forward options due to injuries sustained over the weekend. Both teams secured important wins in the Premier League before their meeting at Goodison Park.
On Sunday, Everton defeated Nottingham Forest 2-0, which helped them extend their lead over the relegation zone by five points. However, this victory came at a cost as both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto had to be substituted due to injuries.
Beto, who had replaced Calvert-Lewin in the 67th minute, suffered a severe head injury in a collision with Morgan Gibbs-White. The Portuguese striker appeared to be knocked out before hitting the ground, requiring extensive medical treatment and ultimately being stretchered off. It is highly unlikely that Beto will be available for the match against Liverpool due to concussion protocol, although it has not been confirmed if he indeed suffered a concussion. Despite this, Sean Dyche, Everton’s manager, revealed that Beto was conscious and speaking coherently after the game.
Calvert-Lewin, the striker who was replaced by Beto, was taken off the pitch due to a knock. Dyche mentioned that they had to exercise caution with Calvert-Lewin’s injury but expressed hope that it would not have a long-lasting impact. Although Calvert-Lewin has faced availability issues in recent seasons, he has managed to only miss six games despite suffering four different injuries this season. If both Beto and Calvert-Lewin are unable to play, Dyche might take a risk by starting 19-year-old Youssef Chermiti against Liverpool.
Another option for Everton upfront is Arnaut Danjuma, although the Dutchman has not featured in any of the last 11 league games. Everton will also be without right-back Nathan Patterson for the remainder of the season due to thigh surgery. Additionally, Seamus Coleman, Dele Alli, and Lewis Dobbin are unavailable for the match.
Both Dyche and Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, will provide updates on the fitness of their squads during the pre-match press conferences on Tuesday. The final Everton lineup could consist of Pickford in goal, with Young, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, and Mykolenko forming the defensive line. In midfield, Onana and Gueye could be paired together, with Harrison, Doucoure, and McNeil providing support. Chermiti might be the chosen striker for Everton if both Beto and Calvert-Lewin are absent.
