Beto, the Everton striker, has revealed that he thrives on criticism and needs haters to motivate him and prove them wrong. The Portuguese frontman joined Everton from Udinese last summer for a fee of £25m, but struggled to adjust during his first season in England. Despite scoring 10 goals for Udinese the previous season, Beto only managed to find the net four times for Everton.

In an interview with BBC Sport, Beto emphasized the simplicity of football and the need for competition and criticism to push him to improve. He acknowledged that not everyone in life will love or hate you, but in the world of sports, criticism is an inevitable part of the game. Beto admitted to reading comments on social media when he performs poorly or misses chances, using them as motivation to silence his critics. He takes the criticism personally and uses it as fuel to push himself harder in training and in matches.

Beto also revealed that he keeps screenshots of negative comments from Facebook and YouTube as a reminder of what he needs to prove. He takes these comments seriously and uses them as a source of motivation to constantly improve. The striker emphasized the importance of competition and staying alert, noting that it pushes him to always be at his best.

The 26-year-old started his career at Portuguese side Uniao Tires and had to work part-time at a fast-food restaurant to support himself before moving on to Olimpico Montijo and later joining Primeira Liga side Portimonense in 2019. Beto’s journey to Everton has been marked by determination and a strong work ethic.

Reflecting on his first season in England, Beto admitted that it was tough and that he struggled to adjust. However, he now feels more prepared for the challenges of the Premier League and is focused on improving his physicality to contribute more to the team’s goalscoring efforts. Despite the difficulties, Everton managed to achieve their objectives and avoid relegation.

Beto’s positive mindset and ability to use criticism as motivation demonstrate his mental strength and determination to succeed. As he prepares for the upcoming season, he is determined to prove his worth and make a bigger impact on the pitch. Everton fans can expect to see a more determined and focused Beto in the coming season as he looks to silence his critics and help the team achieve their goals.
