Scottish forward Che Adams has made a move to Serie A side Torino after leaving Southampton at the end of his contract. The 28-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the Turin club. This transfer comes after Southampton offered Adams a new deal and Wolverhampton Wanderers also showed interest in signing him.
Last season, Adams had an impressive performance for Southampton, scoring 16 Championship goals as the team secured promotion to the Premier League. In addition, he had previously scored 25 goals in 88 Premier League starts during his four-year stint with Southampton. Adams joined Southampton in 2019 from Birmingham for a fee of £15 million.
Adams’ move to Torino adds another Scottish player to the list of footballers in Italy. Last season, there were three other Scottish players in Serie A. Lewis Ferguson, who played for Bologna, was voted the best midfielder in the league before he got injured and missed out on Euro 2024. Liam Henderson played for Palermo, and Josh Doig was part of Sassuolo.
Although Adams had a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign with Scotland, where they were eliminated in the group stages, his move to Torino offers him a fresh start in a new league. Serie A is known for its competitive nature and tactical style of play, which could potentially suit Adams’ skillset.
This transfer also highlights the talent drain from Scottish football to England. Many young Scottish players have been scouted by English clubs, which has led to concerns about the future of Scottish football. In fact, there have been recent discussions about implementing scouting restrictions due to this issue.
Overall, Che Adams’ move to Torino opens up new opportunities for him to showcase his abilities in Serie A. It will be interesting to see how he adapts to the Italian style of play and contributes to Torino’s success in the upcoming season.
