Erling Haaland Ruled Out of Manchester City’s Club World Cup
Manchester City’s star striker, Erling Haaland, will not be participating in the Club World Cup due to a stress injury in his foot. This injury has already kept him out of the team’s last three games.
Despite Haaland’s absence, Manchester City managed to win two out of those three games against Luton Town and Red Star Belgrade. However, they were held to a surprising 2-2 draw by Crystal Palace in their most recent match.
Manager Pep Guardiola had hoped to have Haaland back for the Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia, but The Daily Mail reports that the striker will not be able to play in the competition.
Alongside Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku have also been ruled out of the Club World Cup. None of the three players will be involved if Manchester City reaches the final against Fluminense on Friday.
De Bruyne, who has been recovering from a serious hamstring injury, is back in training and gradually returning to full action. Doku, on the other hand, is close to making a comeback from a less severe hamstring problem.
There is hope that all three players will be available for selection when Manchester City faces Everton in the Premier League on December 27. However, this will only be confirmed after the squad returns from Saudi Arabia and undergoes training ahead of the fixture.
De Bruyne has only made one Premier League appearance this season before suffering an injury. His return to fitness will be a significant boost for Guardiola and the team, especially considering their struggles in the Premier League where they currently sit fourth in the table after the draw with Palace.
