Erik ten Hag has ruled Luke Shaw out of Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Everton but reveals Christian Eriksen will be back in the squad.

Shaw, who has just signed a new four-year deal at Old Trafford, limped off in the 1-0 victory over Brentford on Wednesday having lasted only 37 minutes.

The England international left-back headed straight down the tunnel after being replaced by Tyrell Malacia with what appeared to be a hamstring issue.

He is now unable to face Everton on Saturday, although Ten Hag did reveal that midfielder Eriksen will make his long-awaited return from injury.

The Denmark star has been out of action since January, suffering an ankle injury in the FA Cup victory over Reading after a nasty challenge from Andy Carroll.

‘Luke Shaw is not available for tomorrow and we have to see how we progress in the coming week,’ Ten Hag said on Friday.

‘The good news is Christian Eriksen is back in training and he will be back in the squad tomorrow.

‘I think it was not for nothing, I was so angry about that bad tackle (by Carroll) and he (Eriksen) was away.

‘We first feared we lost him for the whole season but he worked really well, the medical department did very well.

‘He’s returning to the squad and is available for the final stages of the season, so we are very pleased with that.

‘It was a really bad tackle and a really bad injury, it’s settled and now we are very happy with that.’

Eriksen joined United on a free transfer from Brentford in the summer and instantly became an integral part of Erik ten Hag’s plans before his injury.

He started all but one of United’s league games prior to his injury and his return will provide a huge boost with his side still challenging in the Europa League and FA Cup while fighting for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
