Wayne Rooney in Surprising Talks for Boxing Match with KSI’s Company
Wayne Rooney, the former Manchester United legend, could be making a surprising move away from football and into the boxing ring. Reports suggest that Rooney has been in talks with Misfits Boxing, the boxing label owned by YouTube star KSI. This unexpected career change comes after Rooney’s dismissal as the manager of Birmingham City following a string of poor results.
Rooney, who had been building his coaching career after successful stints at Derby County and D.C United, seems to have set his sights on a different kind of challenge. The Daily Mirror reveals that he has been speaking with Misfits Boxing about the possibility of appearing at one of their upcoming events. Led by boxing promoter Kalle Sauerland and YouTube sensation KSI, Misfits Boxing has previously featured OnlyFans models, YouTube stars, and MMA fighters in their shows.
For Rooney, this opportunity to step into the ring would be a remarkable shift considering his recent coaching endeavors. His short-lived tenure at Birmingham City was marred by disappointing results, leading to his departure after just 15 matches. However, Rooney’s passion for boxing, as a lifelong fan himself, may now see him pursuing this new avenue.
It is worth noting that Misfits Boxing is not governed by the British Boxing Board of Control. This means that any potential match involving Rooney would not be a competitive boxing fight but could instead be an exhibition clash. Misfits Boxing has gained attention in the past for its controversial weigh-ins, press conferences, and overhyped promotions. Their fights have included audacious tag-team battles and even bouts between OnlyFans models.
While there is no confirmation yet that Rooney will participate in one of Misfits Boxing’s future events, the possibility remains open. It may require a substantial financial offer to convince the 38-year-old football icon to step into the ring. Rooney’s connection to boxing is not entirely new, as he has previously walked out with Ricky Hatton for one of his fights in 2007. Additionally, he has been ringside for numerous boxing matches, including Anthony Crolla’s title defense against Jorge Linares in 2016.
Rooney’s enthusiasm for boxing can be traced back to his childhood, where he was a member of an amateur boxing club in his hometown of Liverpool. An infamous clip of him sparring with former teammate Phil Bardsley went viral, showing the ex-defender being knocked out. Rooney even celebrated a goal for Manchester United by shadowboxing and pretending to be knocked out.
While the talks between Wayne Rooney and Misfits Boxing are still ongoing, the prospect of seeing the football icon step into the boxing ring is certainly an intriguing one. It remains to be seen whether Rooney will take up this unexpected challenge and fulfill his dream as a boxing fan. One thing is for sure, if he does enter the ring, it will undoubtedly be a sight to behold.
