Antony Set To Return To Manchester United Starting XI Against Brentford
Manchester United are set to welcome Antony back into the fold this weekend, as they prepare to face off against Brentford. The Red Devils have been struggling with a number of injuries in defence, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Lisandro Martinez also out of action. However, Sergio Reguilon remains unavailable due to injury, while Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are also sidelined.
Erik ten Hag confirmed at a press conference on Friday that Antony is likely to be ready to start this weekend after coming off the bench in the Champions League in midweek. The Brazil international had been out of the side since 23 August, placed on a mutual leave of absence following domestic abuse allegation made by his former girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin. Antony has strongly denied all accusations – including those made by two further women.
Jadon Sancho remains unavailable for selection as the feud between manager and winger continues, while Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo are also out injured. Ten Hag believes that consistency is the main issue for his side, saying: ‘We need to do the right things, be consistent and do it like before, so definitely you can mark such a moment like when we score or concede a goal. We have to step up.’
The Red Devils will be hoping that Antony’s return will help them to get back to winning ways, and they will be looking to take all three points against Brentford on Saturday.
