Mykhailo Mudryk: David Seaman Backs Chelsea Winger to Turn Around Dismal Start
Chelsea spent nearly £90m to sign Ukrainian international Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk last season, beating Arsenal to his signature. However, the 22-year-old has failed to live up to expectations and justify his price tag so far at Stamford Bridge and is yet to score in 20 Premier League appearances for the club.
But Arsenal legend David Seaman believes the Ukrainian has what it takes to succeed at the club, saying: ‘I’m sure that we are going to see a lot more from Mudryk. He looks a proper player – the touches and especially the turn of pace that he’s got as well. A [run of form for him] is just waiting to happen for him.’
Mudryk started his first game of the season for Chelsea at the weekend against Aston Villa, but failed to make an impact before he was taken off after 60 minutes following a red card for right-back Malo Gusto. The Blues would eventually fall to a disappointing 1-0 defeat, courtesy of Ollie Watkins’ 73rd-minute strike to further heap the pressure on Mauricio Pochettino’s side who are yet to win a game or score a goal in September.
Seaman still believes that the Argentine is the right man to lead Chelsea forward, saying: ‘It’s not Pochettino [who is the problem]. If they get rid of him I will be well happy, because Chelsea will be right out of it. The longer he stays, the better they will get. There is no doubt about that. They are a young squad that’s been forced on him a little bit, I think. But they are going to come good. Arsenal have them in a couple of weeks and they need to get three points while they can because they are going to get better, there is no doubt.’
Mykhailo Mudryk has had a difficult start to life at Chelsea, but David Seaman believes the Ukrainian winger has what it takes to turn things around and become a success at Stamford Bridge. The 22-year-old has failed to live up to expectations so far, but Seaman is confident that a run of form is just waiting to happen for him.

Despite Chelsea’s poor form, Seaman believes Mauricio Pochettino is the right man to lead them forward and that they will come good in time. He said: ‘The longer he stays, the better they will get. It remains to be seen whether Mykhailo Mudryk can turn around his dismal start at Chelsea and become a success at Stamford Bridge, but with David Seaman’s backing he certainly has a chance. With Arsenal coming up in a couple of weeks, it could be the perfect opportunity for the Ukrainian winger to prove his worth and show why Chelsea paid nearly £90m for him last season.
