Liverpool Striker Darwin Nunez Withdraws from Uruguay Squad Due to Injury

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has been forced to withdraw from the Uruguay squad for upcoming international friendlies due to an injury. The 24-year-old was initially included in Marcelo Bielsa’s selection for matches against the Basque Country and France during the international break. However, Nunez sustained a hamstring issue during Liverpool’s 4-3 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, ruling him out of international duty.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp provided an update on the team’s injury situation after the game. He revealed that Nunez had injured his hamstring, along with Lucho (Luis Diaz) who felt discomfort in his groin. Cody Gakpo also twisted his ankle, but Klopp did not have further details on his condition. With the international break looming and Liverpool facing a hectic schedule, Klopp expressed hope that the players could recover quickly and be ready for the rest of the season.

According to sources, despite Nunez’s withdrawal from international duty, there is optimism that his injury is not serious and he will be available for Liverpool’s upcoming match against Brighton on March 31. On the other hand, it remains uncertain if Diaz will be fit to play for Colombia, as he reported for national team duty despite his groin discomfort. Gakpo, meanwhile, has not yet withdrawn from the Netherlands squad.

Liverpool will be eagerly awaiting positive news on both players as they aim to have a fully fit squad for the remaining fixtures of the season. There is some good news on the injury front, as Curtis Jones is set to return to the squad for the Brighton match, barring any setbacks. Additionally, Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Alisson Becker are making progress in their recoveries and are not too far behind in their return to action.
